Hey, I'm wondering if it's possible to connect a 27" iMac to my Mac Pro, so I can use its display.

Also if its possible, would it require me having the iMac turned on? and would that use more power than having a normal display attached?

Does your Mac Pro have (Mini) DisplayPort? If it does, you only need MDP cable to do that but if it doesn't, you need an adapter.

The iMac must be on and it does use more energy than regular display

Ah I see, I'm not sure if it does have a Mini DisplayPort, I have my 23" ACD plugged into one of the two slots/ports/plugs I can put it into, what does a Mini DisplayPort look like? Would there be one on my GTX 285 for Mac graphics card?

GTX 285 has two dual-link DVIs so you need an adapter but I'm not sure does DVI to Mini DisplayPort work. You can call Apple and ask

All right thanks, it's a shame they don't have new cheaper screens out, its only about $700 more to get the 27" iMac Core i7 w/ AppleCare than it is to get the 30" ACD -.-

Mmm. If you can hold on, there is Mac Pro update around corner and likely a new display(s)

I don't think I'll be purchasing anytime soon, so that might be good - thx :)
When do you think they are coming, I'm thinking mid march for the new MBPs, MBAs (?), and Mac Pro's

New Intel CPUs suitable for Mac Pro are released on Tuesday so it depends on Apple. There was a rumor about new Mac Pros being released next week

That would be so cool, can we expect MPs clocked @ 3.33GHz + Turbo? w/ 1333MHz RAM, that'd be so AWESOME.

Yea of course. Not dual 3.33GHzs though because they are 130W so two of them might be too hot but dual 2.93GHz which are 95W are possible. Even single 3.33GHz will own all current 8 cores so I can't even think about the speed of dual 2.93GHz!
