I have this AVI video that won't play smoothly on my Mac because it is too high quality. Sometimes it even freezes my VLC Player.

Is there a way for me to degrade this video to something of lower of quality in order to play it smoothly?

This is America, you can do anything you want!

Degrade it as much as you want, but the problem isn't "too high quality", it's excessive bitrate. The ATAPI interface on a CD/DVD player isn't designed for uncompressed video playback.

Load the clip to your hard drive, where you have 10-20X the data transfer rate. It should play fine from there. If not, convert it to .mov.
