Why does steam update all of my games while I am working? I am tired of this as I can barely surf on the internet during this, much less work. Is there any way I can disable auto-update on steam in my Macbook Pro? Any help would be appreciated.

That's Steam's default behavior.

If you don't like it, you can change it globally via the Settings:

Steam > Settings > Downloads

and set the download window to some off-hours time like 2:00 AM to 2:05 AM.

You can also configure this on a per-game basis via each game's Properties section from the Steam desktop client.

Undoubtedly there is more assistance available in Steam's support pages.

You are absolutely correct. I already stumbled upon this yesterday. It seems that disabling the game’s update prevents it from opening. Scheduling to non-working hours seems to be the only way.
