Can I edit widescreen in Final Cut Express?

I have just found out that I am getting a new DV camcorder in a few days that has the ability to shoot 16x9 images in DV format. My old camcorder does not have this capability. I know that FCE only allows you to edit DV format. Does that mean that I cannot import/edit/export video shot in 16x9 with FCE? Will I have to upgrade to Final Cut Pro to get this capabilty? Or am I confusing widescreen and HD? Any help you guys can provide would be most welcome. Thanks in advance

You'll have to get to grips with anamorphic video and its display options, but FCE will work fine with "widescreen" DV.

Digicams don't actually shoot 16:9, they generally crop the top and bottom and call it widescreen. You need a proper lense to shoot true 16:9 widescreen.

Make sure you set your capture to anamorphic, and keep an eye on your output options too, otherwise it'll come out stretched.
