I have sold my 3g on Ebay in order to cover the cost of a new 3g S. Before I ship it off, it would be nice to erase my personal data, especially notes and contacts. Is there a way to do that without unlocking and unjailbreaking?
Not really, I would recommend actually erasing the whole device. Folks like me could recover anything deleted and wreak havoc with your personal information.
The "proper" way to sell you phone is to use the Settings->General->Reset->Erase All Content and Settings option, then either loading a pwned firmware from Pwnage Tool, a stock firmware, or a stock firmware then using QuickPwn.
Good Luck!
If the phone you have to sell is already unlocked and jailbraked will you loose the jailbreak by reseting all content and settings?
I jailbroke and unlocked, then I restored with itunes, upgraded to 3.0 and removed the sim.Um, yes.
what I wrote would put the jailbreak back on for the person you sold it to.

Is it safe to sell that way? Or do I have to do as you suggested above. Sorry i am new to this and did what I thought would work.
Can you jailbreak without a sim in it?
thanks
I would say no, unless you erased all content and settings, just restoring still leaves data on the device and a person could recover stuff if they wanted to.
As for jailbreak without a SIM, not sure but it may work.
After you Erase All Content and Settings, you need to put in DFU mode then restore in iTunes.Ok I erased all content and settings and now my phone is stuck with the pineapple on it wont turn off or react in any way. tried to use the pwnage tool again. nothing. I tunes doesn't see it either. bricked phone?

Got it restored. Now I run pwnage 3.0, pull my sim and sell. Correct?
Thanks again![]()
Ok, run redsn0w, pull sim, sell? Jailbreak/unlock?Actually, if it's restored, it might be easier to use redsn0w which will jailbreak directly. Otherwise you need PwnageTool to create a custom firmware which you will have to restore your phone again.![]()
