Been having a lot of WiFi issues with my iPad.
It's not a connection problem -- just overall signal
strength compared to what I am getting on my
other Apple devices.

Yes, I did all the router fixes suggested. My
router is not dual-band. Does only "G"

Thought I would return my 16GB to the Apple
Store let them know the issue and upgrade to
the 32GB.

Perhaps, just by chance, the 32GB will have
better WiFi range on it.

All this within 7 days of my original purchase.

Will Apple store just do the upgrade with no
restocking fee?

Thanks for the help.

Not sure why you think the size of memory has anything to do with WiFi the strength of signals but you'll get the best answer by visiting an Apple Store or just calling Apple.

I was hoping someone else who may have
exchanged theirs would have an answer.

I should have been more detailed in my
original post. I do want to upgrade to a
32GB. I am hoping there is an outside
chance that one unit over another may
provide better WiFi coverage.

I am hoping that by citing the WiFi
problem that would give an added excuse
for Apple to exchange the unit for an
upgrade without charging a restock.

I want to do the same (no wifi problem just want more space). Called one store they said no, called another store they said yes, so it depends on the store.

I figured it would be that way, the closest store to me I never care for since they always say no to those kinds of requests but the other store is always more willing to please and just has better customer service over all, and usually has more in stock too.

Anything is possible with Apple, it's all how you go about it and who you talk
to. First when the unibody MBP's came out I was replacing a 13" white MB. I decided to just get the 13" and be done. Well about 30 days later I find myself wishing I had a larger screen so called up Apple. I first explained my situation and they recommended that I come in a speak to a manager. I did, and they waived the restock and let me upgrade no hassle at all.

In your case I would explain your wifi issues, if they offer to replace it, simply ask if it would be ok if you went with a larger capacity one. Being polite and staying calm goes a long way with people. If you ask to speak with a manager first you don't have to explain everything twice. I've found the Apple store to be very accommodating to make customers happy.

Just got back from swapping my 16GB to a 32GB, no problem at all, but there were all out of stock for any folio cases if any brand, just TONS of sleeves, which I'm not popping 40 Bux, for when I picked up a netbook one for 14 at best buy.

There is always the chance that your iPad may have a WiFi issue, and an exchange may be a step to consider. The 16G WiFi hardware is identical to that in the 32g & 64 G iPads, but there is always a possibility of unit to unit variance with any product and you could see a difference.
One other consideration would be to upgrade your router. For about the same money as upgrading to the 32g iPad you can buy an excellent router. I saw some "Top of the Line" N routers listed as Refurbs on Best Buy's website for less than $100. Good luck.

FWIW, I turned in the 64GB wifi model and told them I wanted the 3G. I asked to have the restocking fee waved, and they did it no problem.
I was given an Apple Gift card valued at the full value I paid for the 64GB wifi model.

Thanks Scott. I just bought a 32gb iPad and I am so blown away I want the 64gb because I'l be using it a lot more than I thought I would. It's amazing. I'll try to ask them to waive the restocking fee. Hope it works. Thanks for the advice. This thing rocks!
