Ok so I bought my 3G on Sunday. Yesterday and Today I've noticed the usage numbers climbing even when I'm not using the phone. I've rebooted the phone twice and it still does this. What can I do to fix this without going to a genuis as there aren't any appts today? Restore?

Firmware is 2.0.1

I may be wrong, but I belive usage includes any time the phone fetches or pulls data, even when the phone is locked.

That may be why it's rising.

Well I have fetch set at 15 minutes on everything but my exchange which is push...

Apple supervisor suggested a restore so I'm going to do that now.

Also with the same settings on my old 2G iphone I never had this problem so I'd rule that out as the cause...

Happened to me once on my first gen iPhone. One day the battery just went kapoot on me and died within a day (remember this is first gen, not the 3G, so one day was quite quick!). The problem was usage was running high for some reason, usage actually reached something like 19 hours, and standby was only at like 4 hours or so.

Try giving the phone a hard reset by holding power/sleep button and home button until screen turns off and try turning it back on.

I'm running a backup now but I'll try that after its complete and before I restore...

is your usage basically equal to standby time?

if so, delete your exchange account and recreate it. that fixed it for me. well actually i did a "reset all settings", but from reading elsewhere it is the fact that the exchange account was deleted that fixed it.

my battery life went from 5 hours to 15+ after i did this.

something seems to get stuck with exchange push and cause the phone to be constantly polling the server, or something.

...also to add to the above, if you have a rather large email with attachments it can cause a hang up or choke point keeping your mail app active. I would go to your email account and see if their are any large emails. Do what the poster said above and turn of your auto check for a day or two. Just check email manually and see if things get better.

I have had this happen to me and just rebuilt my account and cleaned out gmail. I never use auto anything. I check stuff myself and my 1st Gen still lasts up to 4 days on standby.

Good Luck
Gary

Removed Exchange; Still occuring.

Looks like its my Yahoo account thats the problem - I added it back in and now get constant standby/usage climb equally. Exchange didn't do that when I added it in.
