It's been done. :)

Search the forum for EFI32 ROM, and EFI61 ROM IIRC. You should get two particular threads dealing with each. Get the correct one depending on your Mac Pro and happy flashing. :p

The real trick is making sure the card has a large enough ROM on board. ;) Members who did this, claimed the PNY cards have such a chip. :D

If you're not sure, search digikey for the part number, and it should have a link to the data sheet. It will tell you the size. Look for a 1Mb (128KB) chip, as some of the PC based cards only have half that.

Hope this helps. :)

anybody ?

Well, I can tell you the following: I accidently flashed my Mac/PC HD3870 card with the PC-only firmware ... yes, I mixed-up the two cards within my Mac Pro  However, I was able to reflash it with the Mac/PC rom and it now works within OSX as before. Conclusion: A HD3870 can be flashed with the Mac/PC rom if the you are lucky enough to find a card with a big enough rom chip (128K). Unfortunately the Sapphire HD3870 is 99% identical to the Mac/PC version but has a 64K chip :(
I am not aware of any case somebody identified a 128K rom chip PC HD3870 card so far ... soldering might be one alternative ;)

Howdy there

I'd sure like to get hold of the Mac/PC Rom - recently bought a second hand 3870 that I'd like to flash for use in my 2008 Mac Pro, running Leopard. Could you help? I'm guessing you flashed it in a PC using something like Atiflash?
