Can I get a matte screen on the MB? please!

Hey mac guys, well, my transition is coming along. I just sold my HP dv1000 to my ex-girlfriend, haha, so the laptops gone. I am taking my desktop (custom) to school, its loaded, and I just got the 2007fpw dell 20" screen (by far, the best computer purchase ever, i mean ever, buy it now).

So i got the windows desktop for all the stuff I do, but got no laptop. I don't need one until I leave my desktop, around the holidays for when I come home, and next summer im doing the Europe thing.

I love the macbook, but I HATE the glossy, screen, I had it on my HP and yeah it looks good in the store, but after using it everywhere (what a notebook is for) it sucks. Unless you are in a black room with no light, its OK, but it sucks.

Is there a way the guys at mac can make one without it or are all the screens like that from the factory. Do you think by 10.5 they will have an option for that. If not, I guess I will have to wait for the MBP.....

Call apple and ask for a matte screen, the apple store in birmingham (UK) said that was an option available. The ones in store all seem to have glossy screens (even in black...)

apple.com says they all have the glossy, there is no option on the black. After i read what you wrote, I was about to pull out the wallet.

I guarantee you that the south shore apple store had a matte screen on the black MB yesterday when i went there.

Don't know where you live but i know in boston they have matte screen MBs

just called them and she said they don't have that, gave me a speal, basically you cant get a MB without glossy, MBP's have a choice.

The MacBooks are made only with glossy screens. The poster who said he saw one without a glossy screen must be mistaken since none have left the factory that haven't been glossy. In fact, his conviction is a good indication that the glossy screens are not too reflective.

I personally find my mother's MacBook great. Then again, I have only used it indoors.

Are you sure it didn't just look matte? The glossy screens often don't look like they have a reflection based on the lighting, with the anti-glare coating on them.

Actually yes i can tell that the glossy screens are extremely reflective.

However if i am wrong, then i am.

I will state that the black macbooks were on the opposite side of the table pointing the other way from the white macbooks which had a light source right above them while the black macbooks did not. That may or may not have had an impact on the glossy factor of the screen.

I however do know that i would not be able to use the glossy screen even if the black one did have a glossy screen because i almost always have a light source behind or right above the computer so it would be far too reflective.

If there's a light on them it is much, much easier to tell. I would also be annoyed if there was a light that would cause the screen to constantly reflect.
