can i get my 5.1 speakers to work

i searched and couldnt find an answer sorry if there is one, but i got hte mbp and i jsut realized my speakers are only playing in the front and middle how do i get hte back to turn on, i only have the green cable plugged in, is there a way to plug in the others , or is there a software thing i need. let me know thanks

You need speakers with a digital optical connection if you want 5.1 sound.

If they don't, you will need some new speakers or a new sound card for your Mac.
