Can I get my old @me.com address back for icloud?

I have a MobileMe account that expired some time ago.

My itunes account is now a @gmail.com address. When I setup iCloud, it's asking me to make a @me.com account, but I cannot seem to be able to use my old account.

Is there anyway I can use my old address?

No, at least not combine it with your current AppleID.

You might be able activate it independently at me.com/move or icloud.com.

yes you can, mine was expired and I could transfer it without any problem
