Can i have an extended desktop on the new iMac?

trying to find out if my new iMac will support an extended desktop, i have used an extra monitor up untill my G4 Mirror door power supply suddenly died. I seem to find that i can only mirror my iMac screen? what good is that. I have a BENQ LCD i used before with the G4 am i able to use this? or even my cinema display from the G4?

would love some help with this

there is plenty to go by on that thread so i should some how plug this one
