Can I install fresh OS on ssd (instead of cloning drive) and if so, how?

In spirit of the post my answer is:
Yes. Command + R, Install OS. My favorite; Create a USB installer and use that.
I don't know what else you want me to provide. 2014 Mac mini. I understand the physical guide. The rest is in the title. Looking for a guide or "how to" install a fresh copy of OS X on a newly installed SSD...
Well this is much more information. How was I to know that you had just installed a new SSD and you wanted to install a new OS on the new blank SSD?
What OS? Do you have no bootable internal HD drive or just a empty new SSD? Have you already installed the new SSD or are you configuring it externally and then installing it?
I literally just did this 4 hours ago. I bought a Samsung Evo 850 (250gb) and installed it in my 2010 MacBook Pro.
1. Back up all of the files on your current HDD
2. Create a boot/installer drive on a usb drive or external hard drive. (google "create boot/installer drive mac 'insert current OS version here'" its easy.
3. Install the new SSD in your mac. (check youtube)
4. Plug in the usb boot/installer drive you created and turn on your mac holding down the option key.
5. Select the boot/installer drive and when it starts up select install OS. You can also choose to use a time machine backup. Personally I went with a clean install of the OS only. I'm going to manually move my files over at my convenience.
I had no issues, no errors, and my 6 year old Mac is running better than ever! Good Luck
Awesome, thank you. I actually bought the same drive (except 500gb). Seems pretty straight forward. I was mostly worried there wouldn't be a some kind of failed verification check or something in place. Thanks again!
