Hi All,

Im hoping someone is able to help here,

I have an iMac 27" (2014) with a 1TB Fusion drive.

My query is, am I able to split the fusion drive and install Windows 7 on the SSD portion (128Gb) of it only.

I do not need MAC OS at all and ideally would want to remove that so it's just Windows 7, I understand this is not possible using bootcamp so can use a USB installer.

I can use the iMac with only 128gb SSD and the 1TB sata does not need to be formatted if it causes issues as I have an external SSD im planning to use for storage.

All help will be appreciated.

I believe it is possible, but wonder why you would want to install an operating system that is now out of support. Running Windows can be risky enough without using a version that is no longer receiving updates. If you want to do it I'd go for Windows 10.

Its used as a work pc and will be running macros using a simple process so updates will not be a concern for me. Currently I have split the Fusion drive and trying to install Mac OS High sierra on SSD portion then try using Bootcamp which seems it may be the easiest way around this if it works.

Just to update, I managed install Windows on the SSD part of the fusion drive, then formatted the SATA disk on Windows 7 so its used as a backup drive for extra storage (1TB).

I split the fusion drive then installed MAC OS High Sierra via USB to the SSD section of it, then once High sierra loaded I installed Windows 7 via bootcamp the usual way allocating 81GB of space to it.

All works flawlessly now.
