Basically,

you cant use a windows xp sp1 disk to install windows xp onto your mac using bootcamp.

What i wanted to know is if i partition my HD then format it to a recognizable format for windows installation disks, would i be able to install windows xp sp1 that way?

or would the same principle apply as bootcamp and sp1 versions of xp are incapable of being installed on macs?

Hope someone has the answers :)

Thanks :D.

Use bootcamp, it will install just fine. The issue you have is that you cannot install drivers on it unless it's service pack 2.

I just did this last night I installed XP with SP1. You can download the SP2 distributable.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

You get an error when you try to install it until you fix a registry setting in Windows. This is from a forum talking about doing this for SP3 but it worked for me with SP2.

1. Click Start - Run - Type “regedit” and press enter.

2. Navigate to

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup]

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\Software
\Microsoft
\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\Setup

3. In the right pane, Right-click and select New - String value

4. Name it as “BootDir” and set its value to “C:\”
