Here's the setup for me.

I have a Mobile Me (originally .Mac) account, let's say it's a@mac.com

My primary AppleID used for purchases is an alias of that MM account, let's say b@mac.com. I *think* this is also my "iTunes ID", but I'm not sure (how do I find that out?)

So, will iCloud let me move over and use the b@mac.com (alias) as my iCloud ID? I do not want to use the a@mac.com email address anymore.

Man, I can't believe what a massive, confusing mess this whole AppleID/iTunesID/Mobile Me/iCloudID thing is...

You can't set up iCloud with alias

I tried, and it won't accept my alias in system preferences. I tried to set it up as a new account, and as you can imagine, it rejected it, too.

EDIT: I hope that there is a way around this, of course, because, like you, I want to use my alias as my iCloud identity.

After I added an alias in iCloud Mail, there was an option to delete it. It would be logical that if you delete it in MobileMe, it becomes available and you can register it in iCloud... but you know, that's pretty tricky since there's a chance you'll lose it completely.

I heard that you can only change iCloud accounts once every 90 days on a device. I wonder what happens if you do this, and then try to set up the alias as the new iCloud account.

Deleted Aliases still cannot be used by other accounts.

I have this same request (moving an alias to my main iCloud account from my old MM account), and submitted it to Apple via this form:

Just found a way to do this!!

Hi guys, I just found a way to do this. However, please note that this method will create a NEW iCloud account, but not swapping the alias as your primary login.

First, delete the alias from your iCloud account as suggested by C64. Then, go to appleid.apple.com and login with your current iCloud account (click "manage your account"). After logging in, you will see a list of email addresses which you can use to login as your Apple ID. Delete the alias address. After that, voila~ I can create a new iCloud account using my previous alias address!

Hope this can help~

Hi was the deleted alias created in iCloud or transfered from MobileMe?, according to support the deleted alias remains linked to the main account for re-activation if required.

I also checked the appleid account management and the alias is not listed there which seems weird

Thanks

I'm also very curious how you managed to do that.

I'm in the exact same spot. I want to make my primary me.com address an alias and exchange it with an alias one. Apple has seriously messed up with this whole thing...

I'm in the same position ... my "main" address that I give to all friends is actually an alias, so I can't use it for facetime and what not. I also have a separate iTunes account ID.

They really need to get all this iCloud ID stuff sorted out and allow merging of accounts ... it's rather frustrating at this point.
