can i partition fusion drive?

Just got a new iMac 27 with fusion drive.

I'm actually running a mac mini and boot from USB3 SSD but since Sierra I need to boot 2 or 3 times before my system boots, not sure what is causing that because the system is loads almost completely, I sometime see my desktop for a second on secondary monitor but mac mini hangs on apple logo + progress bar and i have to force a shut down with power button.

My actual SSD is 512Gb I would like to partition fusion drive in 2 drives and keep CCC copy on external SSD.

Could it cause issue or slowdown partitioning a fusion drive?
I guess that is preferable to move my system on internal drive instead keeping on external SSD

Do you also have any advice on witch ram to buy?

You can't partition a Fusion drive. You can "break" the Fusion drive and have a separate flash drive and HDD in there if you want. But I'm not clear exactly what you are trying to accomplish? Can you explain a bit more?

From what I have read online, it is possible to partition a Fusion drive without splitting first. The new partition would happen on the spinning hard drive portion.

I know bootcamp does that, but have you seen a way to make that work with HFS somehow to accomplish (I think) what OP is after?

There are issues associated with partition a Fusion drive related to recovering free space when you attempt to reclaim the partition later. I was just interjecting that it is possible to partition. However, I would probably not suggest anyone to do it.

from disk utility I can add a partition

here it says that is possible and the new partition would be on mechanical drive, that would be great for me since it should store photo and music

Huh.... TIL. I did not know that was even possible in DU.

I made 2 partition one for macOS and one for media library
tested with black magic i get on the first

- 854 write 1277 read
- 83 write 76 read
