Can I play music wirelessly via bluetooth?

Hi I have a Sony CMTHX5BT Hifi and it has built in Bluetooth, I also have just bought a Mac Mini, and as I have not yet got it through the post (it is taking ages, I bought it nearly two weeks ago!!!) I was wondering if it is possible to connect the two devices to play music wirelessly via the bluetooth connectivity built into both systems. I will hopefully be receiving the Mac this week so if nobody replies and I have successfully synced the two devices I will let you all know!

Success!

After a while of fiddling around I finally managed to get the Mac mini to sync with the hifi unit, if anyone else is having problems, all you have to do is search for a headset unit with the built in bluetooth help at the top right of the screen and enter the passcode that you set on screen in the guide. Beware though, if you have a wireless mouse and keyboard that also connect with bluetooth, there is some "stuttering" of the mouse, don't be alarmed, I think it is just because of the amount of data travelling through the bluetooth device at one time! please tell of your success or failure with this!

thanks for your instructions, it was most helpful!
Anyone knows how to proceed after that? how can I send the music to the hifi from itunes - i can't find any setting there. Or do I need another software for that?
Or how can I send streaming audio from the internet or radio player to the hifi?

Ok so what hifi system are you using? Is it one with built in bluetooth? If so you should search for it on your mac by going to the top bar and click add new bluetooth device, when your mac finds it, you just click add to my devices and follow the instructions, it will probably ask for a pass code or similar usually 6 digits long for security. After this you just pair the two devices (the mac and the hifi) and all sound will be played back through the hifi so long as the signal is not lost.

Alternatively if you have a wireless N signal in your house and you also have an apple Airport Express (£65 approx) you can use a feature on Itunes called Airtunes where you use a 3.5mm jack plug (the kind used most commonly in headphones and are really cheap in most hardware or electrical stores) to connect your router (the airport express is the best option) to your hifi with the other end of the 3.5 mm lead. Sorry its so complicated but I couldnt see which angle you were coming from with your question so I thought I would cover both bases :-D

Just read your query again and if you have your mac connected to your hifi via bluetooth then all sound regardless of software used etc will come through your speakers of the hifi

got my printer working with it, but the stereo not yet. i think i need an extra cable. i'll manage, and if not... you'll hear me again soon!
