Basically, no.

You need to encode it specifically for the iPod, either with QT Pro, FFmpeg or Handbrake (if you're going straight from DVD)

There's a big walkthrough in the iPod section of Macrumors. Search in there.

I would export it to the iPod video in quicktime pro and it would work. Not all movies that play in your itunes library will work on the ipod video.

No.

Apple's website has the video requirements for playback on the iPod.

As for how to get them to those requirements there are a stack of threads already.
