I will be using my sister's credit card to purchase my macbook. do I need her with me to use her credit card? she goes home late from work so I'm hoping I'll be able to use her credit card without her having to go with me.

I guess you are gonna buy it at the Store right? I don't think you can buy it with her credit card, but you can always order online :D

Depends on how anal the sales associate is that rings you up. Though for a big purchase, I'd bet they check very thoroughly.

Yeah, you'll need her to be there - assuming you mean you're buying it at a store, not online. It's very likely they'll ask for ID.

well I returned something at the apple store without her, so I thought I could purchase without her. damn.

If you have to sign something you won't be able to purchase. Couldn't buy my MBP in store because my mums name is on the card ordered it online

Returns and purchases are very different things. And, as a credit card holder, I'm happy they tend to check ID for things like that....

Now if your sister was real nice, she could add you as an authorized user and then you would receive a card in your name, but her account.

However, I would then promptly advise her against that since she would still be liable for all your charges. Plus then there are issues with age and whatnot if you are under the age of majority to enter into contracts.

I'm 17. I have a credit card already. but not enough to buy a macbook.

Do you have enough cash do buy the macbook? or you going to keep it on the credit card?

How long if you plan to keep it on the credit card?

Nope. See, I thought that but I started getting all those letters when I was 17...

Fair do's!

If you do use a credit (for anything not just MB) pay it off ASAP that way you dont incur the interest charges. I pay mine off every month. Just bought a MB on mine, got paid 2 weeks later used half of previous month wage and half of this months to pay off the card. Nice new MB no interest charges. :)

Bought my macbook with a new credit card that I got specifically for that purpose. Interest free for six months.

In the UK at least using credit cards for major purchases gives you increased protection if there are any supplier problems.
