Can I push RAM past 2GB in CD iMac?

I've currently got 2GB of RAM in my CD (not C2D) 20" iMac. The question is, can I put more RAM in (like one 2GB chip and one 1GB chip, or two 2GB chips even) without hurting the machine?

I'm not sure about the max ram in the CD iMac's but as far as I know on my 24" iMac the max is 3gb, you can put 2 x 2gb chips but the system will only pick up 3gb of it.

if you put 3 GB of Ram (2GB*1 and 1GB*1) in the CD iMac then its was 'waste of money since it'll only see the max ram of 2GB..


Best way to keep your machine running is not to go over the max limit

Sure you can put a 2GB chip in. Thats about all you can do, put it in. Other than that you will not benefit at all. The limit that the CD iMacs can take is 2GB, so you are maxed out right now.
