Can I put PC ram in my Mac

Can I put PC ram in my Mac?
Or will that tear a hole in the universe?
Since I am having trouble finding somewhat-reasonably priced PC3200 ram that is specially designed for Macs (in my case a non-iSight iMac G5), I was wondering if I could put, say, HP brand PC3200 ram in my iMac.
