Hi friends, can I remove this whatever it is from my iPad before I trade it in? Because from seeing the photo, they (not Apple but a private company) want to take about $20 off trade in value. I don’t know if it’s from old sticker or oxidation or anything. If you know I be happy for advice!

I think you’re more likely to do further damage and risk reducing the value further by trying to remove it.

I would try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol. If it doesn't come out, then leave it be. It could be some sort of irreversible chemical stain.

I'm actually surprised they care about this. Typically, they just want a working device without a cracked screen.

Did you have a sticker or a case that rubbed against the aluminum
It was like this when I got it but I didn’t notice it until now when they said they will take $20 off. It’s not much money but to me it is such a small thing I don’t really see the issue. Just because of this they will classify it as grade b, when it was grade a before and they say that it’s likely it will get “worse” over time. I’m not an expert at all but I’m thinking if it’s possible to fix it then I would happily do it.

Have you tried some product that is designed to remove old adhesive, such as Goo-Gone?
You could also try a few drops of WD-40, etc.
-- maybe even Magic Eraser, or something similar (be careful, some of that kind of product can be too abrasive)

"$20 off trade in value"? Just curious -- What's the total for trade-in, then?

First they said $85 then I forgot to reply to their email so they suddenly offered me $95 and I agreed. But today they said that because of the discoloration mark they can’t sell it as grade a. I already bought a new iPad that I’m happy with so it’s not really a big deal, I could put this old one in a drawer and forget about it. But when I heard “it’s likely it will get worse over time” I actually got a little bit suspicious.

Yeah sounds like a line they use a lot I expect…

Are there any other places you could sell it to instead?

Guys I think I’ve solved it. Applied some body lotion after shower and with oily hands I put my fingers on that mark while playing a game on the iPad and the discoloration seems to be gone. Just like magic. So much for the $20 off because of “likely to get worse over time…”

Edit: spelling errors.

Yeah, likely your buyer knew that mark would probably clean up, but wanted to force you to take a lower price.
Try to sell for $100 (so you have $100 more than you have now..._

I “solved it”. Now I won’t sell it to them. There are other places actually a LOT of them. They seem to buy anything Apple related, water damaged or bent doesn’t seem to matter. I’m happy I have a new iPad with warranty this time.
