Can I run 3D Studio Max and Pro Engineer using Parallels?

Hi. I am studying Industrial design at Uni and need to use PC programs 3D Studio Max and Pro Engineer.

Thing is, I so want to stay with my mac but am worried that, with Parallels only allowing use of about half of the RAM, I won't be able to meet the specs of the applications.

Is anyone else running these programs on Parallels or Boot Camp? If so, do they run properly or is it better just to go downmarket and buy a PC?

That was my way of thinking as well. Unfortunately the RAM is less of a problem. It is the lack of 3D acceleration that really puts the brakes on.

On Parallels I have tried Max — Mac Pro 2.66 with 4gigs RAM — slow and jerky.

"Lighter" apps such as Rhino 3D work well under Parallels — but for the "heavy" AuotDesk apps — Max etc I use Bootcamp. A pain I know, but it does work very well.
