How well would this work, I want to buy an iMac to use as my main computer, and a MBP for my wife for her to use, to use when we travel, and basically for me to use in the kitchen or in bed at night. So I'd like to be able to have all my files on my iMac but be able to access them with the MBP via wi-fi. Both the MBP and iMac have 802.11n (and router) so should this be a piece of cake?
I'd be mostly reading/editing/writing documents (text, pdf, word, excel), I'd be browsing photo albums (not editing), and I'd want to stream itunes from the iMac. Ideally I'd like to be able to stream video too as I download a lot of tv show torrents, but if I had to copy them over first to view it wouldn't be a big deal.
So how would this work or would it be sluggish? I'd like to see my iMac's hard drive as a second hard drive on my MBP. I don't want to deal with syncing, I want everything to stay on the iMac, I don't want two copies of everything. Appletv can stream fairly large video in real time (720p) so logically what I want to do should work right? But does it actually work in practice, anyone do this? If it helps we live in a loft, no walls.
