Please help!!!

This news about the 2GB Limit for future iPad owners has me quakin' and shakin' in my boots! :( I really really was looking forward to purchasing an iPad in the next couple weeks, I was just doing a bit of last-minute research to decide it's for me.

Can I be "grandfathered" into the $30/unlimited plan without an iPad physically in my hands? Is there ANY way I can sign up for the plan on AT&T's website without an iPad?

Please help. Thanks...

I don't think so -- but call AT&T. As of today, Apple still advertises unlimited 3G plans on their website. Do you plan on maintaining that $30 per month charge, uninterrupted for the life of the device? Realize that if you do not renew even once you'll lose the option of unlimited data anyway. It's stupid.

Somebody in the other thread suggested the only "workaround" to get a 3G Unlimited if you don't have an iPad yet, is to purchase an iPad SIM at an AT&T store, take it into an Apple Store, and activate it on their display iPads.

:(

Not EVEN gonna attempt that. What Apple Store are you guys going to that don't have at least 2 security guards on duty all day, constantly monitoring the sales floor like hawks???

Actually, if you go ahead and purchase an iPad or reserve one at an Apple store right now they might actually help you out in that regard,i.e., let you activate your SIM in one of their units. Certainly worth pursuing.

Exactly, even if not they're likely not going to care whatsoever.

Hi. So I purchased a 32GB 3G iPad on May 20th. It's scheduled for shipment on June 4th to deliver on June 9th!!! I obviously wasn't pleased about the new data plan news. Called AT&T this morning and after an hour and 2 supervisors (I got names and direct phone numbers) they promised to honor the $29.99 Unlimited Data Plan I intended on purchasing. We'll see if they honor that when I call to activate next Wednesday. It's staying in the box until they confirm on the phone that it's happening. If not, I will return it promptly at the Apple Store once I get off the phone. Hope it happens.

Just fyi, I did this today. I got an iPad sim last night from an AT&T store, and luckily I work in an office with many 3g iPads. Slipped the sim in, activated the new account, and they still offered to 30/month plan for unlimited.

I had planned on getting my gf the uber model iPad as a graduation gift, and without the unlimited data over 3g, it would have been seriously messed up. I can understand limits on most smartphones, but for the iPad, touting the ability to watch streaming video over the abc player and netflix, I see the unlimited data as absolutely essential. Sure you can save the bandwidth by using wifi, but if the wifi is not available, which was my goal with having a uniquely portable streaming media device, without the unlimited plan, I'da been screwed.

So yeah, by the grace of god, I got my sim in hand, and that is a very special thing to have. I am damn committed that I will never let the plan lapse.

Dude, you really need to relax over this. Your threads over the past few days border on psychosis.

What are the 3G data plan options from AT&T?
There are two monthly data plans: 250MB or 2GB. Customers who order iPad from the Apple Online Store by June 6th will also qualify to purchase an unlimited monthly plan. There’s no contract, and you can sign up and change your service right on your iPad. In addition, AT&T data plans include unlimited access to over 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots at locations including Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, and more.

Oh this is great.

There's going to be all these panicked people running around like chickens with their heads cut off to ATT stores, and then sneaking around in Apple stores and Best Buys trying to activate the sim cards.

Better hide your iPads.
