Will I sacrifice anything with background app refresh off? I hear it really helps the battery life on the new ipad Pro

Absolutely!!! Background app refresh has nothing to do with notifications.

Background app refresh is a load of crap, only thing it’s good for is wasting battery life, turn it off 😊

It provides apps with an opportunity to refresh their content at certain intervals, at iOS's discretion. However, apps need to support this explicitly to make use of it.

The idea is that apps are refreshed when you open them, whilst saving battery life, since it is the os determining whether an app can refresh itself or not.

It's not needed to receive notifications, but some notifications may also trigger a background refresh - so that the app already has its latest content fetched by the time you tap the notification.

I honestly never could figure out, what background refesh really does. I turned it on a few weeks, than turned it off and noticed absolutely NO differences. 🤷‍♂️
With it enabled the apps will periodically download/fetch data in the background, so when you reopen the app, you see the content load faster and apps will delay suspend mode when you put it in the background but I don't know exactly how long.
Have nothing to do with notification.
