Can I still go from 3G 3.0 to 3.1 and JB?

For various reason I never upgraded my phone past 3.0. I would like to use the new features in iTunes that are only available on 3.1 and after like app management. I am currently jailbroken, and do not need an unlock. I am on Win7.

I have a copy of the 3.1.0 ipsw file

VERSION: 3.O (7A3411)
Model: MB7O4LL
mODEM FIRMWARE: 04.26.08

I setup spare PC with XP, Itunes 8.2

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have about 15 search tabs open trying to figure out how to go to 3.1 and jailbreak. I must be using the wrong search terms.

To the thelatinist, sorry there was a mistype, the Model is MB704LL not MB7O4LL. It was purchase April 2009 and is a 3G.

I have reviewed your post: So You "Accidentally" Upgraded to 3.1.3. Now what? and several others.

Applejuiced I have also read your comments on various threads, thanks to both of you.

The situation is even with iTunes 8.2 the restore wants to go to an apple server.

My steps are put the phone in DFU by connecting it to computer,
holding home and power
releasing power two seconds after screen goes black
releasing home after I hear itunes beep
I get a message that I can restore the iphone, but it wants to go the apple server and install the latest update

I seem to remember having the option in the past to pick the location of the ipsw file.

You are way over thinking this. A 3G phone is very easy to upgrade, downgrade and jailbreak on any firmware version.

If I were you, I would just do an official Apple IPSW update to 3.1, activate the phone with your official carrier sim, then jailbreak it.

+1. The only thing you should not do is upgrade to 3.1.3. Personally, I would suggest 3.1.2 over 3.1, but both are good.
 
Thanks to all posters, success. I was doing to many things as stated above. I went with 3.1.2 and JB is good.
