I purchased an AppleTV for my in-laws a few years back. My father-in-law recently bought an iPhone 4S and is trying to listen to radio shows through the ESPN app on his living room speakers.

I know I can use AirPlay to stream the audio to my Airport Express & AppleTV 2, but I can't seem to find any definitive information on where the line is drawn between the old AirTunes and AirPlay.

I don't have easy access to their set up, or I would just test myself. But, I'm heading to their house for Christmas and am trying to decide if an AirPort Express or AppleTV2 should be on their gift list.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Best,
Iulius

AirTunes is AirPlay, just only for sound. Yes, you can stream audio from an iOS device to an Applt TV 1G.
