Hi,

I have a very high spec M1 Max Macbook Pro 16inch and recently dropped something on it when it was open. It ended up damaging the aluminium around the touchpad and keyboard.

I found a second hand base 16inch macbook M1 Pro that I'd like to frankenstein with my macbook. Will I be able to just swap the logicboards, fan assemblies and touch ID sensors between the two devices? I have all the tools I require. The new undamaged base spec 16 inch also has far fewer battery cycles. Will the device automatically update the number of battery cycles, how will I get my high spec macbook to reflect the new battery charge cycles?

Thanks in advancefor the advice.

I think YouTuber Luke Miani tried this and it didn’t work.
I think this is the video you're thinking of

Thanks in advancefor the advice.
On one hand, I can't imagine why you couldn't There are many Yts showing people doing it.

One question I have - is there anything wrong with the second MBP you have now have in your possession? What I mean is why not just use that if it works? I feel like I'm missing something

Thanks for the feedback.

Both machines are 16inch macbook pro machines. They are not M1 and M2. These are the specs:

My machine: 16 Inch macbook pro M1 Max with 32gb ram and 2tb storage.

The used machine I'm planning on using parts from: 16 Inch macbook pro M1 Pro with 16gb ram and 512gb storage.

The higher spec machine is the one I have been using. The lower spec machine is the one I want to take parts from. Both are working perfectly. I bought the lower spec machine as a used machine to take parts from for use on the higher spec machine. Once swapped I will sell the lower spec machine with the damaged palm rest area (if i can successfully swap parts)
