nope.
You can get your battery fixed, that's it.

You could sell the mini on eBay if ya wanted, to help buy a new nano..

are you sure b/c it says right here that they will "replace your ipod" so does that mean since mine is discontinued that i would get a nano

http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/battery/

If for any reason your iPod is replaced under warranty, it'll be replaced with another iPod of the same model. Even though it's discontinued. Believe me, they have warehouses full of 'em.

Edit: @katie. Yes it is. ;) Haha! I am of the two seconds faster than you! ;)

as far as I know, they'll replace it with another mini. They have a lot of minis left. They've been discontinued SOLD and manufactured, but they still have some in stock for repairs and the like.

then again, I'm PRETTY SURE that is what goes on. I don't have a mini, so I have no idea about all that mess. People at the genius bar who have brought in their minis have asked this question, and Aaron (Best. Genius. EVER!) has told them basically what I told you.

EDIT:
Man, today is just KT is beaten by stridey day, ain't it?

I think by the time all the iPod Minis run out they would probably just give you your money back or give you Apple vouchers.

There could be disparity as to how much an iPod Mini is worth compared to a Nano or video iPod

My wife's ipod mini started suffering the battery blues about 6 months after buying it,...I just took it in to the Apple Store at my mall, and under the 1 year manufactures warranty, they replaced the entire mini with a new mini....no nano or offers of any other hardware...

Even if they didn't have any minis to replace it with, you sure wouldn't get a video iPod. You'd get the closest eqivalent- the nano. But I am sure they have a million minis left.

Yeah they won't be running out of minis until after your Applecare expires. It's extremely uncommon not to have a huge back stock of returned or leftover hardware, specifically for the purposes of repairs and warranty replacements. If they did somehow manage to run out, they would offer you a product that was closest to the value of your machine at that time. In other words, if you had a broken 800MHz G4 tower, you'd probably get a refurbed mini (or an offer for a $400 or so credit toward a more expensive system). They would not replace it based on the original purchase price. For an iPod mini, regardless of capacity, they best you'd get would be the 2GB nano.

Sort of like an insurance adjuster, if your 2001 car died, would offer you either another 2001 car of the same model or a payment for something else (perhaps a 2006 model). But you wouldn't get a 2006 model for free.

Nope, if you take it in anytime within the next six months or pretty much whenever it's still under warranty, you'll get a new mini, and that's it. End of story. I've had at least three friends that have had theirs replaced with the EXACT same model even if it wasn't produced anymore.

not saying it didn't.... it's not a standard policy by Apple. You can't go in and "up-trade" your mini.

My "nope" was to : i thought you could pa extra and exchange it for that (which is not apple's way of doing business.)

I have a mini with a battery problem -- after 90 minutes it is 3/4 out of juice. I bought it at my campus computer store (in Canada). I don't have applecare but I still have 4 months on 1 year warranty. It is registered with Apple. What should I do?

Thanks:confused:

Call apple and bug 'em. You still have warranty. (Not the campus computer store.. Apple canada)

You don't need applecare (it's still under warranty). If you're in Toronto, take it to the apple store. otherwise, call them on the phone and see where you should take it / ship it.

PS - for people (not you) who are looking for out of warranty repairs (i had a 3g that I botched up the audio plug in on - out of warranty) this guy's good... and in Canada (but does worldwide repairs)... I saved myself the postage and dropped it off (Toronto): http://www.ipodshop.ca/index.html. Apple wouldn't touch it..... prices are reasonable, even for our US friends.

Apple will never run out of those Mini's (atleast not until the 3 years AppleCare is up for everyone).

But lets say they did, and you had a 6 GB Mini, what would they replace it with?

We'll see how Apple treats my Mini. It is a 2nd generation 4GB that I bought as soon as they came out (February, I think) that had a few occasional glitches I could live with (always with the backlight) until it completely stopped working not too long ago. I'll be sending it in within a week or so hopefully.
