I am new to iMac. I downloaded three things, but the third one did not seem to be successful, so I highlighted it and clicked "Clear" while in the downloads folder on the Dock. All three disappeared. Can I get the info back? I'm assuming the downloads are still there, but I liked seeing what I had downloaded.

You mean the CLEAR button on the Safari Download window?

Because there is no CLEAR command at the Dock icon for the Downloads folder.

If you have only used the CLEAR button presented above, there might be still the partial download in your Downloads folder.
It has the suffix .download appended to its original file name.
Example.zip.download for example.

Double clicking resumes the download.

Also have a look at the following links, as the information presented there might be helpful in your future endeavours into Mac OS X and could clear up initial confusion and may even prevent harm to your system or your files.
