I have searched around, and am trying to figure it out.
A friend of mine picked up a 3G cheap, but isn't on ATT, So is wanting to unlock her 3G to use on another carrier.

I have read several threads, and I see that up to 2.2, it's no problem, I see you can jailbreak the newer versions, but it looks like unlocking them is a different story.

I don't know what version of firmware this phone has on it yet, but I'm going to assume it is probably 3.0

Can the 3.0 firmware be unlocked?

If so, where do I start to get it done? I have jailbroke before, so I understand how to do that, but I have never messed with unlocking, so this is new to me.

If 3.0 or newer can't be unlocked, is there a way to downgrade, and get it done?

I'm hoping to be able to bring this phone to life on another carrier, just needing some guidance on how to get started.

Help?
