I just got a macbook from my grandma (it used to be hers). She gave it to me because she wanted a computer a couple of months ago and my aunt got her this laptop. She didnt really end up liking computers and she doesnt know how to use it so she gave it to me for a middle school graduation present since Ive always wanted a mac. This is my first mac and I have heard that it they arent very upgradable. I am pretty satisfied with all the specs except for the 50gb hdd. Is it possible to upgrade my HDD to something bigger. If so how much? Will I be able to reinstall OS X.

Here are my specs. White 13" MB| 1.83 GHz C2D| 1GB ram| 55GB HDD| 64 GMA 950 graphics

Yep, 7 screws and 10 minutes is all it takes!

You'll need a tiny philips head screwdriver and a T6 Torx one.

Take out the battery, remove 3 screws, lift out bracket. Hard drive then pulls out, remove 4 screws holding the drive in the tray, put new new drive in the tray, put the 4 torx screws back in, slide the tray in and replace the bracket with the three screws earlier, keep a credit card at hand there is some shielding on the bracket with may need to be pushed down so that the bracket goes back in properly.

Boot off OSX DVD Install disk and away you go.

Good Luck!

just make sure you have the exact screwdriver. otherwise it's difficult.

To expand on this thought, you really need the proper phillips screwdriver or you will likely strip one (or more) of the 3 tiny screws that hold the metal piece under the battery in place. Don't be in a hurry and take it slowly.

And good luck.
