I was wondering what CPU upgrades were possible for My 27" IMAC.
It's running a 3.06Ghz core duo CPU now.

Is it possible to go to a quad core with that mother board????

Thanx

You could upgrade it to E8600 (3.33GHz dual core). Quad core (Q9something) was tried but it did not work.

IMO you're better off selling it and buying a new or refurb i5 or i7.

sell it and spend the money instead for a new iMac and with a bit luck you have money left over , new processors are expensive for the E8600 (would not fit a used processor)you are looking at about £250 , and fitting it is not as simple as in a pc as you nearly have to take the whole iMac apart and one mistake and you had a working iMac , you would not be the first who did a upgrade and destroyed some vital parts
