so i have a jailbroken and unlocked phone, 3 gs ios 5.1.1. I had jailbroken it earlier with redsnow (i think). can i upgrade to 6.1.1 safely or will the phone be bricked?

also, i have noticed that i do not receive group texts from other iphone users sometimes. is this because i have not upgraded? and is there a workaround for this? thanks.

I think he was asking if he can just upgrade without removing the jailbreak.... what's want to know is once a ios6 jailbreak comes out, will we be able to update from 5.1.1 to 6 without erasing?

if that's the case the answer is no to upgrade you loose jb at least temporarily. you restore through itunes you should restore as new. especially if you think you have issues then restore contacts photo's etc.. there is no way to keep a jb and upgrade if that were the case then people would not need to wait for new jb's to come out. ;)

Let me ask this. Let's say there is a untethered jailbreak for ios6 .. If our phone is on 5.1.1 untethered jb, can we upgrade to ios 6 jb without having to erase and resetup phone and folders etc?

I have the same question. People have done it, but every time I have tried to go from one version with a JB to another version and then JB, I end up having to spend countless hours getting things back right.

I have searched for the best steps to follow, so before somebody says, "Google it my friend. It's not that difficult.", it is difficult when you start throwing in the combination of upgrading and jailbreaking. Like one thread recommended going to iCalrified...which was of no help.

So, anyway, does anybody have a foolproof list of steps or a link to steps already posted, on how best to go from one version to another version with out having to start from scratch??????

Specifically, I have an iPhone 4 that is just for timelapse and video function. So, a tethered JB will be fine. It is currently on 5.1.1.

Thanks for any helpful feedback.
