Happiest of Holidays to all of you!

I use iPads exclusively and would like to put some music on my iPad Pro as inexpensively as possible. I have an Apple SuperDrive and several adaptors. Will my iPad Pro import music from CDs? How would I do that? Most of what I want is from the 60’s, 70’s And 80’s so the CDs probably wouldn’t be too pricey. Thank you!

No, you need a computer to write CD contents to your iPad Pro. I have a cheap USB-powered DVD drive and it doesn’t work. If you DVD drive is powered externally you could try, but I still doubt it. Plus, I bet there’s no app supporting reading from CD/DVD drive.

Impossible with just an iPad. You can feed music cds to a Mac or PC with iTunes and sync that over or skip the hassle and subscribe to a music streaming service. I’ve done the latter for a few years and don’t regret it.

Quite an interesting question.

Since they have USB-C connections and you could *possibly* use a dongle to connect an external USB disk drive to that dongle and use the music app to import?

Haven't tried it myself. I had a iPad Air 4 but ended up not liking its usability (personally). but I imported music with a Mac and transferred video files as well.

When I visited Japan, they have an external CD player/drive that can rip CDs straight to an iPhone. CD rental shops offer these in their stores. I don't think it exist outside Japan though... :D

That’s pretty neat! I guess from a software perspective one would then work with a third party music app to play the files as you can’t get the iOS Music app to add them to your library. Still better than not being able to rip them at all.

dope machine.

I would buy one instantly. Especially if it came with an APP to select specific tracks to be ripped and not the entire album.

I literally went on amazon looking for such a device. Do you happen to know the brand by any chance? I might hop on Ebay or Alibaba and look for it.

I'm old school iPod generation/user so I want my music stored locally-on-device.

Don’t want to sound like an echo chamber but you need a computer with an optical drive and itunes!! once you rip your music it will automatically add them to your library and upload to your icloud music library if it’s enabled. I have had good luck with this but for sure you need old school hardware to make it work!!!

Don't mind the ripping aspect - that's always been the case (I have hundreds of CDs, dating back decades). The absurd aspect is the need for iTunes to get the music into the library.

To be honest, all things considered it blows my mind how Apple has undermined iTunes, it’s still fantastic for playing your music and the behind the scenes information about your music is crazy not to mention that it’s the only way to currently create a smart playlist that has legit helped me narrow down a few songs on my library! You could create a smart playlist that only plays your cd ripped songs if you choose.

The only downside from it is that itunes will deleted your music if you never selected them to be copied to your Library, i have lost precious songs because of this.

I’ve never lost anything but I never run anything through iTunes that is not backed up, music or otherwise. Not that I don’t trust it …
