I now have a redundant 2010 Time Capsule, not needed for Wi-Fi or back up (which BTW never worked well anyway!)
What to do with it, chuck it or is it possible to utilise the space on it for just storing some files films photos?
If so how do I do it. Have looked on You Tube but nothing that is clear shows up if this is possible.

Any advice gratefully received please :)

Yes, you can. But the time capsule is neither fast nor flexible in NAS mode. As example the disk can be shared only via afp protocol only Mac computers can access.

I am surprised that it hasn't worked well for you for backups.

I agree that it isn't the fastest. I think it's best as a passive backup solution or a temporary large file transfer.

I can access the contents of the tc on my Windows computer.
