Hi All..

Can I use a laptop (2.5) SSD in my Mac Pro 1.1?

If so how do I do it?

Ben

So i have a 2.5 SSD.. I can just plug it straight in? Isnt the CD drive an IDE connection?

I thought it would need to plug into the SATA connection?

If it is then you run data cable down the back of the DVD enclosure and bring it out at the bottom to connect to the spare ports on the motherboard which are boot able you also need molex to sata power adapter cable for the powering of the drive using the spare one of the molex in there.

I'm completely green about SSD as well because up until now I've been content with my setup with traditional SATA drives but SSD have been on sale recently so it's become an option but I'm completely out to lunch on how to connect them.

Firstly, the spare molex connector is used by the video card I threw in there so are there any other options for adding SSD other than sacrificing the optical drive and/or one of the drive slots? I'd like to keep them populated with drives for storage.

Secondly, do SSD generate more/less heat than traditional drives?

Thinking of picking up an Intel 80GB for the apps and Lion for the MP 2008.
