I have an old Mac Pro 1,1 and I have upgraded a video card in my another Mac Pro, leaving behind a MacVidCard flashed GTX980 video card.

I'd like to setup the old Mac Pro 1,1 as extra gaming machine, but didn't know if the flashed MVC GTX 980 would work in a Mac this old. I don't even know what the PCI bandwidth is on this old Mac, or even if the EFI boot is compatible with between the two devices. Lastly, I don't know if there's extra power outputs on the main board to power the 980.

Does anyone know if this will work?

as far as i know, its not possible.
but maybay you can ask MVC to modify it's bios, to support 32Bit EFI MacPro systems like the 1,1-2,1 models.
Maybay this is possible I don't know.

But by default I am pretty sure it's an EFI64 only flash.
It will work in the 1,1 MacPro, only withouth EFI bootscreen as far as I Know and you must run a "hacked" OS X El Capitan on it...

Thanks. I also have an unflashed GTX 1070. Will this card work since it doesn't have the EFI boot? And does the MacPro1,1 have the necessary power connectors to power it?

Appreciate your reply.

hi,
well the GTX980 will work under a "hacked" El Capitan with nvidia web drivers installed, but the GTX1070 will not.
Pascal cards like the 1070 will work on MacOS Sierra and up, and since Sierra will not run in anyway on the MacPro 1,1-2,1 the highest you can put in your 1,1 MacPro is a GTX980 when running El Capitan or another OS like Windows 10 or Linux.

MacPro 1,1-2,1 supports dual 6-pin graphic cards, so I dont think the 980 nor the 1070 will give a power problem here..

GTX1070 will work withouth a bootscreen, and only within Bootcamp Windows or Linux.

There’s a video on a Mac Pro 2006 1,1 user who tried installing a Nvidia 980GTX on his machine with Yosemite 10.10.2. The GPU installation is shown at the middle of the video. The start of the video was showing the CPUs and ram upgrades. He tested the 980GTX GPU and the card worked fine.
