Can I use an edu. discount to purchase AC for my existing PB?

I'm looking at purchasing a used powerbook shortly. It's less than a year old and still under warranty. Can I use an education discount to purchase an applecare warranty for that powerbook? I know that the AC can be purchased anytime in the first year, I just don't know about the discount applying to the purchase.

Yes, just enter the education store at Apple.com. It will show the discounted pricing. They'll send you a box, then you go to the Apple support pages, enter the code in the box, and your Powerbook's serial.

It shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you have your student card with you.

I've been told by an employee at the Tysons Center store that they could give me the education discount in store as long as I brought my institutions photo ID with me.

If you have to travel any distance however to get to a store I'd call ahead

I recently bought a 12" Powerbook off of ebay, which still has 5 months left on its AppleCare coverage. The original owner doesn't know where the receipt is, or couldn't find it. Does this mean i can't buy another AppleCare policy before this one ends?

I thought i read on the Support page of AppleCare, that i needed the Case number, and the Serial number of my Powerbook, to make any kind of Claim.

Does this also mean that i can't buy another AppleCare ploicy before this one expires?

I don't think you should have to. Apple should have it marked in their system that your computer has AC on it. The old owner might have to call to transfer it or something though.

Yeah, forgot to mention that on the site it also mentioned Transfering, an account to a new owner. But for some reason this guy i bought it from didn't save the case number, or the reciept, and this is what they need to transfer the account to me.

I think i am screwed.

The case number to make a claim is so that they can keep track of the support that they have given you - no sense in replacing the logic board on the iMac if the reason it didn't work was that you didn't plug it in. Anyhow, I would venture that all you need is the serial number. I assume that the original owner registered the machine, so they will have his info (plus the SN which is on the box).

I assume that he has to be the one to tell Apple to transfer the any warranty to you. You may want to make it a three way call, so that you can be sure to give the correct address info to Apple. I am surprised that they require the reciept and not just authorization from the original owner. I don't have my invoice any more either...
