Can I use another Mac's Superdrive via firewire?

I have imported some DV footage from my camcorder into iMovie HD on my PowerBook and I want to mess around with it and export it to iDVD on my PowerBook. Problem is I don't have a Superdrive on it but I do have one on my iMac. Is there a way to link them both together via firewire and use the iMac's drive to burn the DVD from the PowerBook?

Best way would be to start the PowerBook in target disk mode (hold down the 'T' key on startup) and run it like an external HD on your iMac.

Also, isn't there a way to create a DVD image and then use another machine to burn it? The feature was created so that classrooms could have a bunch of emacs without superdrive, and then give the DVD file to teh teacher to burn.

Probably the same thing as using powerbook in target mode, but the idea is to transfer the file from one machine to the other, which you could do with target mode or with an ethernet cable.

Yes you're absolutely right you can create a disc image. That's definitely the way to go. I perhaps should have looked at the very useful Help facility in iDVD eh?
