Can I use HDR brightness of MacBook Pro (1000 nits) when reading documents?

Hi,

How does MacbookPro 14" M1 and M2 recognize when it can use its highest brightness 1000 nits? Is it only for videos, or could it be used for documents like reading a Word document too?
