I've got a late 2012 13" Macbook pro that I'm upgrading the 8 gig ram currently in there to 16. I recently inherited a Pre "late 2014" mac mini with the base 4 gigs of ram... When I take the 8 gigs of ram out of the MBP, can I put it in the mac mini?

Also, as a side note, when I'm looking up Ram for my MBP, I see 2 speeds listed for possible Ram 1600 Mhz and 1300 Mhz... Other than 300 Mhz, whats the difference? I've got 1600 Mhz in in it now... I should stay with that speed, right?

Thanks in advance -

Pre "late 2014"?
is it a late 2014 model or a 2012 model?
if you look at the bottom of the mini you will see the black base. On the 2014 version this is fixed but on the late 2012 and earlier models you can twist the base and then remove it, revealing the ram.
You cannot remove the base on the 2014 model because the Ram is soldered so there is no need to remove it.
If you can remove the base then you can exchange the RAM, and yes the RAM from your MBP will work in the Mini.

1333Mhz RAM will work in your mbp, but id say stay with the speed that it has, 1600MHz.
There is no physical difference between 1333 and 1600 RAM

Thanks! My Mac mini has the screw off bottom... I'm in!

Appreciate the quick reply...

The same RAM that works in the MBP will work in the Mini. I upgraded the RAM in both my 2012 MBP and my 2012 Mini, bought the same kit for both, except for the capacity (8 GB for the Mini vs. 16 for the MBP).
