hi all,

So work just bought me a retina MacBook Pro 2015 I believe. I’m happy cause I really do need the hdmi and USB ports even though the new touch at model is sleek and I am sure would much prefer that weight.

Anyhow, I’ll be using my MacBook Pro with retina on the go on the daily but when I get home I want to easily connect my mbp to my desk and have like 2-3 external Monitors set up alongside a Bluetooth apple keyboard and trackpad.

I was both wondering and hoping if I could use Apple iMacs that are selling on the low on eBay. The 2009 iMacs go for a little over $100 while the old white ones go for about $50 and wouldn’t mind using these as external monitors. I know I could/should splurge a little more on a better quality screen but I do prefer the aluminum look from Apples iMacs and would prefer a uniform and sleek apple looking desk setup.

PS I know what I’m asking for sounds like the solution would be in cables and I just wanted to say I have no reservations about hiding cables.

I recommend taking a look at Apple's Target Display Mode page. 21.5" iMacs from 2009 or 2010, or 24"/20" iMacs from the prior generations don't support this feature; you'd need at least a Late 2009 27" or Mid 2011 21.5".

The other downside is the iMac must be fully running, you can't just use the display.
