Hello. Here is my situation. A couple of years ago I bought a 12 Inch 1Ghz Powerbook. I had some problems with it and it was replaced under warranty with a 12 Inch 1.5Ghz Powerbook. When I got the newer Powerbook all i got was the newer computer and I kept all the old accessories such as the powercord and Panther restore discs. I have never had a reason to use classic until recently. I can't use my Panther discs to install classic throught the front door so I was going to try and use Pacifist to extract it. Can I do this? What exactly do I look for on the disc? Can anyone offer any help?

Under Tiger there were some problems running the applications installer since it would crash on startup. I think I ended up booting to an external disk that had 10.3 installed, installing a clean version of Classic and copying the classic folder to the Tiger disk. I know that I now have a zip file containing a clean classic install which I unzip on machines when I need to install classic.
Don't give up. 
You can use the original Panter System Restore disks to install Classic on Tiger. That's what I did on my iBook.
Just use the first restore CD, and just deselect everything except Mac OS 9 when asked:

Well I wish it was that simple. I have a system restore disc from my old rev. B powerbook. It was relaced by Apple under warranty with a rev. D. When I try to use my system restore disc I get an error message stating that the disc is not compatible with this computer. This is why I am trying, unsucessfully, to use pacifist to extract classic. I just can't find it.
I think not. The MacOS 9 installation CD needs to boot your Mac. If your computer can boot into MacOS 9, you are OK. However, if it cannot boot MacOS 9, then you have two options. The preferred option is to install MacOS 9 from the System Restore disk that shipped with your computer. The second option is to copy an installation from another installation onto your computer. You may copy the installation over an electronic network or you may use SneakerNet with a disk large enough to hold your MacOS 9 System Folder and Applications (MacOS 9) folder. A CD-R/RW, 750 MB Zip disk, or 1 GB flash drive will be more than up to the job.Redline13 said:

I have a "System Folder" on my powerbook that was used fine with Classic on my old powerbook. But when it was copied to my knew one, it won't recognize this as a startup disk and Classic isn't installed (both were running Tiger). Is there a quick fix for this? Or do I have to install Classic? (I left my restore cd in another city and can't get at it right now, lol)

If you are trying to boot a new powerbook into OS 9 directly this will not work. The last powerbooks that successfully booted OS 9 were the last titanium powerbooks. (Maybe the first of the AlBooks.).
I've never had success copying a "System Folder" from one machine to another. I have however been able to zip up a System Folder by right clicking (control-clicking) and making an archive of the folder. If you then unzip the folder on the new machine then open the Classic preferences pane and let it search for the classic folder you should be fine.
I've done this a couple of times to copy a clean install of classic onto Tiger since my powerbook came with OS X 10.3 and the classic installer will not run under Tiger. So now I keep an archive of the clean classic install lying around for future versions of OS X.
I managed to get it to work by copying the system folder off of an install CD on another computer I wanted to add classic to, but my powerbook still isn't working. The startup window for classic will show up but the bar won't progress.
And yeah, it sucks that the new ones won't boot in 9. If they'll still run classic, why did they have to cut off startup abilities? Oh well. Another reason why I miss my titanium I'll have to fix it one day.

Yeah, I tried that by the space bar and by turning off extensions via the "advanced" tab in the system prefs. I think it's just not even getting that far, there's no gray screen or happy mac. Just this:
