Yes, once setup correctly you can do everything with SLS that you can do with the regular SL. The Mac Mini Server is a much better deal than the regular one anyways. And if you need a disc drive you can probably find a superdrive on ebay for cheap as I did or you can buy another external drive.

I got one to do the same thing, but so far haven't even booted it up until I know EXACTLY how I will use it. So many just get it for the 2 internal drives.

I found on uTube a British bloke who shows many aspects of using and setting up SLS. Worth a look. There are like 5 parts to it and some run 9+ minutes.

You know you wouldn't even need a server for what you want to do. Why not just set up sharing for those apps? Might be worth a trip to the Apple store to talk to an experienced Genius. You can make an appointment, wasting less time.

It has 2 internal drive slots, so i swapped out the 500GB stock HDDs for 2x 80GB intel x25 SSDs.

Those 2 slots make all the difference!

Unlike you though im running the client version of the OS, rather than the server edition - the server is overkill for what i need.

Beware though, the server edition can't do everything the client can. For example Bootcamp isn't provided with the server option. This may not be important for your specific application but its important to note that osx server is not a superset of osx client.

lastly, the external superdrive option may have some issues. see my other thread, if i get a solution to the problem i'll let you know.

EDIT: solved!
