I have a MacBook, and I want to get a iMac for my husband and I to share. I like the portability of the MacBook, but I want to hook it up to an external monitor at home. Instead of buying an external monitor AND an iMac, can I "hook up" (either wired or wirelessly) my MacBook to the iMac and use the iMac's monitor?

There are no video inputs on the iMac, I think there might be a way using some third party hardware via USB or firewire though.

What about a computer-to-computer network? Or will that be slow-ish?

Is it possible to boot the imac from the macbook hard disk?

My dad has an 20" imac and i'd love to be able to use my MB on it!

You could use VNC to remote connect to the macbook from the iMac, not sure how quick it would be. Certainly wouldn't be good for anything graphically intensive.

Its speed depends on the network type. Wired is obviously the best, then wireless.
