I'm considering if I should just get the 2G and then buy two 2G modules later and replace it. Can I then use the two 1G's from the MBP in my girlfriends "old" MacBook Core Duo?

Ah, great.

One last question, what kind of DDR2 ram is it they use? Is it micro-dimm?

The funny thing is, if you ask an Apple Store employee this question, they tend to say "no", like they did to me. But yes, as noted above, the two are definitely interchangeable.

SO-DIMM not Micro-DIMM.

All current Intel MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and iMacs use the same RAM. You'll be limited in which machines you can use a 2 GB SO-DIMM though.

In my 15" 2.4GHz C2D MBP there are two 1GB Nanya DDR2-667 (PC2-5300) SO-DIMMs. I swapped one stick with the 2GB Samsung DDR2-667 SO-DIMM that shipped with my 2.33GHz C2D MBP. Both MBPs are working fine so far. I noticed that on the 2.33GHz C2D, the top slot is BANK 0 (where Apple installed the 2GB module), whereas on the 2.4Ghz C2D the top slot is BANK 1.
