Can I use the touch's speakers when a microphone is plugged into the headphone jack?

Hey guys, just got a new ipod touch and i have a question regarding the Brando microphones here and here.

First of all, is the one in the first link compatible with the ipod touch? It says it is compatible with the iphone but does anyone have any hands on experience with it?

Secondly, when these are plugged to the headphone jack on the touch, will they allow me to use the touch's speakers simultaneously? I would like to be able to use skype if this is possible.

If you read the bottom of the first product's page, it says it it compatible with the iPod touch 2G/3G. As for using them, I'm almost certain that you cannot use the external speakers simultaneously. Because the micrphone plugs into the headphone port, the iPod automatically cuts off the speakers so that you can play the sound through your headphones, which don't exist on your mic. This is the case for the switcheasy thumbtack, and I'm assuming that all microphones would be the same. If you really want to listen and use a mic at the same time, you should consider headphones with an in-line mic. You can also attempt to find a mic that actually has a speaker built into it, but I've only ever found one designed specifically for the iPod nano 4G by Incipio. I hope this helps

Personally, I love SkullCandy's headphones. They have a series called the FMJ's that have inline-mic's on them that will work with the iPod Touch and I highly recommend them for 2 reasons:

1. They have AMAZING sound quality.

2. They have a lifetime warranty. If anything were to short out or go wrong you can send them in to them and they will send you another pair for free.

They are well worth the money and you are able to use Skype with them. If you aren't interested in paying that much for a set of headphones, I would just look around an inline-mic in them such as the ones that come with the iPhone but they are still going to be around 40 bucks I would imagine.

Pity - I have the same problem, using a mini mic to try use as a phone via skype. Trouble is I don't think much of the standard apple headphones supplied with the little mic built in, they are not great quality and wrong shape for my ears (ie: they don't stay in!).
Someone posted on another forum that thru the skype app you could click on speaker then exit skype and the internal speaker would remain activated.
I d/loaded the skype app but can find no speaker setting within it.

Big Al Gadget - The speaker option is available once you're in a call. Try calling the Skype Call Testing Service to try the speaker option.

Doesn't seem to remain activated for other voice apps though when you exit skype. Anyway , the skype usage is the main reason for getting this. Cheers!

Im having trouble too

I got an iPod touch 8G for christmas and I also bought the new T-pain autotune app. And ive been looking for a mic that goes with it, but every single mic ive seen doesnt say anything about a mic for an 8g. is there something im missing? do i need to get a special one or something? if anyone can find one that would be amazing. Ive checked eBay, Apple store, Itunes. and i cant seem to find one.

I upgraded from an 8gig to a gen 3 32g, the mic function is there in the gen 2 8g as well, so any of the little ebay pill mics should work. They are only a few dollars anyway, so why not give em a try? Only they will disable the internal speaker while they are plugged in but they will record

I have the excellent wired lapel mic (http://touchmic.com/products-page/i...touchmic-handsfree-lapel-microphone--adapter/) for my iPod Touch 2G. I currently have some wired earphones plugged into it and it works great. However, I'm wondering if I could unplug the wired earphones and instead use a Bluetooth Headset like the one linked below for the sound output (via bluetooth) while the lapel mic adapter is still plugged into the 3.5 jack for sound input?
